“Respect Was An Example We Grew Up With In Our Lives.”

August 29, 2026 · Tim Fuqua

There was a time when we learned respect by watching those around us. We watched how our parents spoke to our grandparents and others. How neighbors helped one another. How people treated their teachers, the elderly, law enforcement, fellow church members, and even complete strangers. Please, thank you, yes mam, and no sir we’re just part of our every day lives. We opened doors for others. They make fun of me for standing to shake someone’s hand, but Dad taught me by words and example to respect others and to have self respect. Mom always said to pull your hat off in the house and to say a prayer before we eat. Respect was an example we grew up with in our lives. Let’s start by our example and also by teaching our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to have respect. Love y’all and we hope to see you tomorrow at Dorris Chapel! We will open the door for you and you can sit with us! Tim
